Waiting...

Today during our Zoom church service, the featured scripture was Psalm 130 which says, "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord..." The irony of this passage being featured today, now, did not escape me. We are all in a season of waiting - for an end to this global pandemic (or at the very least, an effective vaccine so we're safe to go back to our regularly scheduled programming), for the smoke to clear and safe breathing air to return fully, for in-person school to resume so the kids can have a social outlet again & parents "get to" work instead of having to moonlight as teachers as well... Lots of change has happened in 2019 and I think it's safe to say we are all ready to box it up and put the year behind us post haste!

For our little family, this year has been all about waiting for sure - for an answer on whether Harrison would qualify for DDA respite services (he didn't), to see how he would adjust to his new preschool routine (he loved it, but it was short-lived), to get pregnant followed by genetic testing results and seeing how things would progress (well, thank goodness!), but now the biggest of them all: how long we will live in the hospital before finally being able to go back home.

We are currently on Day 62 inpatient, and although Harrison has made great strides, we're not quite ready to transition yet. He is doing well on the ventilator, recently having his settings adjusted down to a self-initiated or "spontaneous" mode (instead of relying on the machine to provide pressure support), and even doing a quick trial off the vent all together to see how he handled it (45 seconds - whoo hoo!). His vomiting is down to once or twice a day now, and although we'd rather it be none, it's definitely an improvement from 8 or more awhile back!

The main thing we are waiting for at this point is nursing care to get all squared away. We thankfully have two great gals lined up to work 8 hours each during the day & night during the week, but still need to find 16 hours per day for weekends as well in order to qualify for release from the hospital. We are praying hard that a solution is found sooner than later, as baby #2's due date is a week before Christmas, and we'd really like to be settled before then. The thing that's always lingering in the back of our minds is the fact that some families live here for 2-3 years due to a lack of nursing care, and of course we don't want to lose the two great ladies we've already secured due to a delayed release date...

Well, that's the news from Lake Wobegon. ;) Hope you all didn't think we'd fallen off the face of the earth or forgotten about you guys... It's just a bit of a black hole vortex in here & we sometimes lose track of time from day to day. :P Thanks for the continued prayers and messages - it helps to know we're so loved outside of this place. <3 And be sure to reach out to friends you know who are RN's/LPN's who may be looking for extra hours & would like to work with our sweet boy - please send them our way!
