Well, I just got off the phone after doing the pre-surgery screening for Harrison's big day, so it looks like all systems are go for Wednesday. We will be arriving at 7am, which means no one will get much sleep the night prior, as we live almost an hour away from the hospital and knowing my husband, he'll be raring to go by approximately midnight. 😛
One positive of this surgery is that it has been scheduled for quite a while. So although I'm nervous and not exactly thrilled with the idea of him having to go through it, at least we've had some time to mentally prepare and get used to the idea a bit. The other benefit to planning farther in advance is that we were able to coordinate different departments doing procedures at the same time, to avoid Harrison having to go under anesthesia multiple times and lowering the associated risk as much as possible. So all that to say, he will be having two urology issues and a check-up of his trach stoma in one fell swoop.
Now even though no one ever *wants* their child to have to go through surgery, I do have to say that the other positive of this particular situation is that Harrison will get to be back on "the floor" with all of our favorite nurses when he's recovering, as the Oto. doc doing his Trach Safe scope wants to keep him overnight for observation. I don't know about Jonathan, but I've been feeling something akin to first day of school jitters all over again - waiting anxiously for the "big day," while simultaneously dreading and looking forward to different aspects of it. It's so ironic to be on the other side of our inpatient stay and realize that you miss the care team you got used to seeing every day, especially the best nurses in the world!
So, prayers & good thoughts appreciated for Wednesday morning and FA.3 - watch out... we're comin' for ya'! 😉
Such good news all around! Your mom was very excited when she reported on Saturday. So happy for the family!
