Hospitalization, Halloween Fun, and Another Round of Stem Cells!

Well, Fall has come in full swing and Harrison is continuing to grow and thrive! He had a little bit of a setback earlier in October when he ended up catching Rotavirus and had to be hospitalized for 5 days, as we figured out a diagnosis, got IV hydration on board, and ruled out any other potential causes. With Harrison being nonverbal, it is hard to know for certain if a little bug could be something bigger, so lots of tests and exams were done to make sure he stays healthy. We got to return to our friends on FA.3 at Seattle Children's, and Harrison had lots of his favorite nurses caring for him. It was nice to able to entrust his care to people we've been through the trenches with, knowing that he is in the very best possible hands. After 5 days, he was well enough to discharge, and headed home to his in-home nurses who missed him terribly! Then just a few days later, he was back to his normal smiley and cheerful self! :-)

Last weekend we did a family outing to Gig Harbor, to hit up a Harrison-friendly "pumpkin patch" (aka lovely farm stand called Patterson Farms). It was set up perfectly for him - he was able to interact with all the fun decorations, see a huge variety of pumpkins, and even play some games with his sister. The crowd was much smaller and more manageable than some of the other local hotspots, we were pleased to see most folks were masked, and everyone had a fun time. While not a traditional farm experience like we've had in years past, it was perfect for his chair and equipment, and we're learning it's not the location, but the people you share it with that truly makes the experience into an adventure! <3

Harrison's experimental stem cell therapy made such noticeable improvements for him that we decided to get him a second round of treatment. We have been in close contact with the doctor in California, updating him with Harrison's new/expanded abilities, and we were so excited to learn that he was able to secure a very generous sponsorship from another business owner in his area to help with some of the costs involved. That amazing gift, plus the GoFundMe donations and garage sale proceeds helped make this second round possible. Thank you to everyone who helped by spreading the word, donating, and/or supporting our garage sale(s). It was a LOT of work, but in the end, we are thrilled to have Harrison’s next treatment booked for the upcoming week, 10/28. It’ll be another whirlwind trip (possibly *literally* as the bomb cyclone works its way inland! :P ) - we'll leave for L.A. tomorrow morning, will spend the night in Redding both ways, and will be back on Friday. Please pray for us as we will be pushing hard in the van as we’ll have several lengthy stops to do cares for Harrison while also combating this crazy weather.
