And now...for something completely different!

Well, it's taken us a bit to do an update because things have been a whirlwind around here lately. We had quite a scary night over the weekend - early Saturday morning, Harrison had a Rapid Response, followed by a Code Blue called on him, which means we had about 30 people swarm into our room within seconds, the lights all thrown on, & unfortunately the only thing we could do was just sit in our corner of the room and watch it all happen like a bad TV show or something. His oxygen saturation started quickly dropping to 50 & even bagging him wasn't working, so they had to do an emergency bedside trach change. Of course, because of the severity of his symptoms, we were rushed to the ICU for observation overnight to make sure it didn't happen again, which meant we only slept from about 7:30am to noon. After the dust finally settled, the ENT team did a scope of his airway and actually didn't find anything of concern. So, the going theory is that his trach occluded, possibly due to a mucus plug. He had some bacteria present when they did a swab culture & they found an abundance" of Staphylococcus aureus present, so now he's on IV antibiotics specifically meant to fight the infection. All things considered, we're doing...okay, although we did experience a bit of PTSD from the whole ordeal. Needless to say, we are hoping this was our first & LAST episode of this magnitude!

Thanks for your continued thoughts & prayers. They're always appreciated & clearly seem to be warranted/necessary as we walk down this crazy, twisty road to recovery!
